James Georgis, Principal Engineering Geologist

James Georgis, L.G., L.E.G., Principal Engineering Geologist, 15+ years experience

Speciaties: Horizontal directional drilling, pipe ramming, pipe jacking, microtuneling, open shield tunneling, slope stability and slope stabilization, ground improvement

As a principal engineering geologist, James manages development, scoping, and completion of a wide variety of geotechnical projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. He has extensive experience with city, county, and public utility infrastructure projects—from predesign geotechnical feasibility studies and design phase geotechnical exploration and report preparation, through plan and specification preparation, review of contractor submittals and RFIs, construction phase geotechnical special inspection, and project closeout. His utility projects have included evaluations for multiple trenchless construction methods, including horizontal directional drilling, pipe ramming, pipe jacking, pilot tube methods, microtunneling, and open shield tunneling.

James became captivated with geology while attending University of California, Santa Cruz. He spent several years exploring the cavern systems below campus with his classmates. As his education continued, he developed a deep respect for geology and the passion of its practitioners for their work and their general enjoyment of nature and working outdoors. James takes pride in helping homeowners, businesses, and the community protect themselves and their property from potential geologic hazards like landsliding and earthquakes.

James takes his passion for geology into the community, with six years of volunteer geologic process presentations to local schools and Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops. He is an active PTA member and also volunteers with local food drives and women’s shelters. James is an avid motorcyclist, and when not working or volunteering, enjoys both riding and working on his bikes. He might also be found backcountry hiking or practicing archery with his wife and daughters.
